Between rolling green hills and dense thickets, hours upstate from cab calling and subway tunnels, we find the birthplace of Farmacy in Forestburgh, NY, at the home of Co-founder Mark Veeder. Our friends had kept pleading with us to try to the Farmacy line, and we’re finally doing it! More than doing it actually– we’re getting the full Farmacy experience! Lined with evergreens, expansive ponds, and even a waterfall, Veeder lives in an upstate oasis with his husband and the most adorable twin daughters. While surrounded by the beauty of upstate New York, we enjoy a bountiful plant-based meal with Mark and his family at the bohemian compound in celebration of Honey Drop, Farmacy’s light weight moisturizer, and the newest addition to the brand’s line-up.
Honey Drop is Farmacy’s answer to an effective and powerful moisturizer that doesn’t weigh on the skin. When blended in, if feels like you’re wearing nothing at all, which is our personal ideal. Not to mention- the antioxidant count in this moisturizer is through the roof. Farmacy incorporates their patented Echinacea GreenEnvy™(a one-of a kind strand of Echinacea first discovered in Veeder’s backyard) in all of their products, which contains a much higher concentration of antioxidants and restorative properties. Let’s just say if Veeder all of a sudden stopped aging, and never looked a day over 35 … we’d definitely know his secret! Combined with Cupuacu Butter Beads, which fight free radicals and contain phytosterols that benefit dry and damaged skin, this formula is beyond incredible for your transition your skincare routine in to autumn.
We asked Veeder to give us the low-down on the Honey Drop moisturizer below!
The Moment: Can you introduce us to Farmacy and the Honey Drop Moisturizer?
Veeder: Of course. Farmacy really came about almost as a happy accident. I was at my garden in upstate NY (in 1999), and I discovered a rare green flowered plant in the Echinacea purpurea bed – green flowers in the plant world are extremely scarce, so it was a shock to find it. I sent the flower to several top horticultural labs to be tested, and the results showed a new variety of Echinacea purpurea, containing a much higher concentration of immune-boosting and restorative properties. I wanted to do something big with this discovery, so I patented and trademarked it as ‘GreenEnvy’ and set about to create a skincare brand with the Echinacea GreenEnvy as the centerpiece. The concept of the Farmacy brand was based around natural botanicals backed by the power of science, the idea of which was incorporated into our tagline, “farmer cultivated, scientist activated.” We wanted the products to truly perform well, be effective and have amazing transformative properties, while staying true to botanical roots. It all came together, and Farmacy debuted in Fall 2015 – just two years ago!
As for Honey Drop, it’s the third honey-rich product we’ve introduced in the line – we also have Honey Potion [a warming mask] and Honey Savior [a do it all salve]. Honey is so incredibly efficacious and beloved for its hydrating qualities and skin-clearing benefits. We knew it would make for an incredible base of a moisturizer – especially when paired with Triple Hyaluronic Acid Complex and Cupuaçu butter beads – more on those below.
The Moment: We loved learning about Echinacea GreenEnvy™ on the Farmacy Field Trip! Is it present in Honey Drop and what is it doing for our skin?
Veeder: Thank you. Echinacea GreenEnvy™ acts as Farmacy’s exclusive, proprietary ingredient. It’s the crux of the brand and the foundation of every single product. Echinacea GreenEnvy™ is 300% stronger in its concentration of Cichoric Acid (a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory) than any other Echinacea Purpurea on the market. What’s so remarkable about Cichoric Acid is it has shown to dramatically protect skin’s collagen thereby reinforcing skin’s natural firmness and strength. In addition, Cichoric Acid’s ability to inhibit Tyrosinase promotes new levels of skin uniformity beyond those of Arbutin, which is one of today’s best-known “brightening boosters.” It’s also a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant – it boosts your immune system, in turn letting the body and your skin help itself. Honey Drop also contains Echinacea GreenEnvyTM honey – which is made by bees who pollinate our fields of GreenEnvy™ flowers on the Farmacy farm in upstate New York — plus a slew of other incredible ingredients, including Triple Hyaluronic Acid Complex and Cupuaçu Butter Beads.
The Moment: Best way or time of day to apply Honey Drop? How often should we apply?
Veeder: We recommend Honey Drop both AM and PM, applied to clean skin. It’s formulated with good-for-you nutrients – loaded with essential antioxidants, botanicals and hydration magnets. It’s absolute weightless hydration and sinks right into the skin so makeup applies flawlessly afterwards. It’s also fantastic to use post PM-cleanse, to give your skin much needed hydration in the evening.
The Moment: What makes Honey Drop different than other moisturizers on the market?
Veeder: Well of course Honey Drop has our proprietary Echinacea GreenEnvyTM active, Echinacea GreenEnvyTM honey, as well as Triple Hyaluronic Acid Complex. We all know how incredible hyarulonic acid is – as it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Our formula has three different molecular weights to penetrate deep into the skin surface. Then there’s Cupuaçu butter beads from the Amazon rainforest. These little beads are rich in hydrating fatty acids and three times more hydrating than shea butter (but without the weight and pore-clogging tendencies) that help nourish and soften the skin. Honey Drop also features royal jelly, which is rich in nourishing amino acids, and propolis—naturally found in beehives—that’s long been revered for antiseptic properties. We also added a complex of fermented soy, mistletoe and Japanese bloodgrass with Tsubaki and meadowfoam seed oils to further moisturize and soften the skin. Aside from the amazing ingredient list – if I do say so myself – there’s the packaging. Just like our Honey Potion mask, Honey Drop’s lid is magnetized, so the spatula applicator can remain atop the lid / won’t get lost in your medicine cabinet. Last but certainly not least, as part of our commitment to giving back, $1 from every sale of every honey product – including Honey Drop – will go directly to citygrowers.org for the development of their farming education work and their Bee Education program in particular.
The Moment: What skin type works best with Honey Drop?
Veeder: All skin types! Seriously. If you’re seeking hydration and skin that glows, this is for you.
The Moment: What are the big ingredients to avoid when shopping for a new moisturizer?
Veeder: Everyone’s skin type is different, so there’s no one size fits all approach to ingredients – but I will say, you should stay away from more toxic ingredients including Parabens, Phthalates, Sulfates, Formaldehyde and artificial colors and dyes.
Special thanks to Mark Veeder!
