How to Meditate

Meditation is one of those things that everyone knows they should be doing, but it often falls by the wayside. The most common thing we hear is that it’s intimidating, it feels daunting. “How do I meditate?” “What course did you take?” “How do you find the time?” The thing is there is nothing more simple. It just requires sitting down for a few minutes and clearing your mind. And the results are incredible. When we meditate consistently, we feel our anxiety subside, our minds settle, and our hearts open.

To show how simple it is, we broke it down into a few easy steps. Here Amanda Chase from Coconut Yoga show us how.

  • Such calming content; a reminder to meditate this weekend! Even though I did yoga (and even taught a bit) for a few years, it wasn’t until I got into recovery for drinking that I finally started meditating. I do a bit on my own, on Wednesday my work actually does guided meditation for 15 minutes, and sometime during the week I try to go down to a center that offers free public sittings and I do about 40 or so minutes.

On my own, I love using the Insight Timer app. They have some guided meditations, but really I like it most for the timer because you can set little reminders. I do about 10 minutes, so at the 5 min mark it gives me a little chime to let me know where I’m at 🙂
