Your Guide to Non-Toxic Sunscreen

Hi! You probably heard us talking a lot recently about sunscreen. It’s been on our minds because we’ve been really trying to stick to our goal of applying sunscreen every single day after conducting our interview with Supergoop founder Holly. Turns out, it takes a lot of research to find your perfect SPF formula and one you will want to wear every day, even if it’s cloudy out. We did a lot of the heavy lifting for you so you can find your perfect formula too. Let us know which one you’ve been wearing!

Cleanest SPF

When a product is sold at CAP Beauty AND Follain, you know its clean and effective by anyone’s standards. Josh Rosebrook’s magical Nutrient Day Cream meets all the criteria. They make a tinted version too for those who like to multi-task.

Best for Body

Suntegrity Mineral Sunscreen is perfect to slather all over for warmer days when you are a little bit more exposed. The formula is really powerful and it has a little bit of a sweet citrus scent which helps lighten your mood.

Best Affordable Sunscreen / Best For Kids

We can’t recommend Kiss My Face products enough. They are clean, effective, and really reasonably priced. It’s such an easy swap to make from your drugstore sunscreen. For obvious reasons, we are partial to their Organic Face and Body Mineral Sunscreen, or their Organic Kids Defense for the little ones and those with sensitive skin.

Most Effective SPF/ Best For Darker Complexions

No one puts more thought in to their SPF products than Supergoop. Their whole brand is based on creating innovative SPF formulas and feel good textures that make you want to apply SPF every single day. They are a leader in SPF research, and we just did an interview with founder Holly Thaggard  to answer all of your burning SPF questions (no pun intended). We recommend their Unseen Sunscreen, especially if you have darker skin because it won’t give you a white cast.

*Because many of us care about the environment just as much as we do our own skin, we wanted to make sure you knew that many of Supergoop’s products include Octionoxate which has been banned in Hawaii for causing harm to coral reefs. We spoke to Supergoop about this, and they let us know that although their first mission is to prevent skin cancer, they care about the environment too and are already in the process of removing it from their products without compromising their super effective formulas. More on that here.

Best Luxury SPF

De Mamiel Exhale Hydrating Nectar feels so luxe on your skin, and the price tag definitely matches. It has an SPF of 50 and a slight tint to even out skin. It was formulated by De Mamiel founder and renowned facialist Annee De Mamiel who we had the best time interviewing this past winter. An investment, but worth it for a formula that doesn’t just protect you, but makes your skin even better too.

Chosen By You

When we talked about sunscreen this week on our Instagram stories, we asked you to tell us which sunscreen you’ve been loving. One that came up a lot was Coola. We recommend the Sport formula because it’s organic and water-resistant!

*This is another product that contains Octinoxate at the moment, but not for long. You can read their note on it here.
